The coronavirus pandemic has ground world economies to a halt as people around the globe practice social distancing and quarantine measures to flatten the curve (limit the spread of COVID-19). Restaurants and bars have shut down in multiple states, leaving many without work. A new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll found that nearly 1 in 5 American households are experiencing layoffs or a reduction in work hours because of the pandemic. This fits within Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin’s projection that America could see 20% unemployment if government action is not taken. But there are still jobs out there.

Amazon has announced that they’re hiring 100,000 additional workers for their warehouses and delivery systems. Amazon is among the big tech companies like Google, Facebook, and Twitter who are still hiring and conducting online interviews amid this crisis. There are of course openings in the gig economy that require low contact work like food deliveries, etc. There is, of course, remote work still available too.
