A Complete Breakdown Of Donald Trump’s Humiliating 24th Week As POTUS

“It’s an honor to be with you” — President Trump to President Putin

The President of the United States just kissed the ring of the man who personally orchestrated one of the most blatant assaults on American democracy in history.

Donald Trump has officially sided with the word of Vladimir Putin over the word of the US intelligence community. For a president who’s campaign is currently being investigated for potentially colluding with Russia to win the election and who’s been widely accused of being Putin’s “puppet,” Trump is doing himself, and America, no favors.

The weakness displayed by President Trump at the G20 summit should concern every American, regardless of their political affiliation. After pushing so desperately for closer relations with Russia, Trump got what he wanted out of the G20, but the American people didn’t get what they deserved.

Abroad, we saw the US isolated on a Trump-branded regressive island, while the rest of the world moved forward without it. At home, the Trump-Russia investigation continued to move forward and by the end of the week, we received the most damaging news of potential collusion thus far…This time it came via open admission from Trump’s own son, Donald Trump Jr.

Here’s a complete breakdown of Trump’s 24th week as POTUS:

24th Weekend (July 1–2)

#25thAmendmentNOW

Coming fresh off a week he spent attacking Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough on Twitter, Trump doubled down on his attacks on the Morning Joe anchors and also unleashed more attacks on the press.

Many thought Trump could stoop no lower. Then on Sunday, he sunk into the floor. President Trump not only went below the dignity of the office of the presidency…he went below the dignity of a decent human being. After the day before tweeting that his use of social media is “MODERN DAY PRESIDENTIAL,” he sent out a video depicting himself violently body slamming and punching CNN. Many saw this as an incitement to violence against the press. Some of his surrogates claimed it was a joke…

Look, if you judge Donald Trump based on the very low standards we’ve come to hold him to as a man, then this isn’t shocking. But if you judge this based on the standards we should be using for the person holding the office of the presidency, then this is appalling.

CNN released a well-worded statement on the matter:

Almost immediately after the video was shared #25thAmendmentNOW began trending on Twitter as the nation demanded Trump’s Cabinet or Congress move to remove this man who is clearly unfit, from office…Section 4 of the 25th Amendment is clear.

The American people have already hit their breaking point. When will the GOP hit theirs?

Meanwhile…

  • GOP Senators arrived home for their July 4th recess to front pages on their local papers highlighting the potentially disastrous ramifications of their proposed healthcare bill

Here are a few:

24th Week (July 3–7)

The ICBM

Kim Jong-un (FRONTLINE on PBS)

Late Monday in the US, and early Tuesday in North Korea, Kim Jong-un and his regime successfully tested an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) for the first time.

Analysts determined that the ICBM has the range to reach Alaska. That being said, North Korea has yet to demonstrate whether or not they have the technology to attach a nuclear warhead to the tip of an ICBM, separate the warhead, and then properly guide it to it’s designated target. This is a startling advancement in North Korea’s nuclear program nonetheless.

Almost immediately after the launch, President Trump impulsively took to Twitter diplomacy.

The United Nations Secretary General António Guterres stated that this test was a “brazen violation of Security Council resolutions and constitutes a dangerous escalation of the situation.” On Tuesday, the US warned North Korea that we’d be willing to use “the full range of capabilities at our disposal against the growing threat.” On Wednesday morning, the US and South Korea fired ballistic missiles into the waters of the Korean peninsula as a show of strength.

There are measures the US can move forward with to try and deter North Korea’s efforts. Handling this threat involves a combination of complicated diplomacy, intricate countermeasures, and steadfast leadership…none of which involve tweeting.

Independence Day

On Tuesday, Americans celebrated Independence Day with the news of North Korea’s successful ICBM launch reverberating in our ears. July 4th was an odd day for many Americans who are simultaneously proud to be an American but embarrassed by our president. Americans that love our country but also think that our current president is a threat to the future success of this nation. As I said in last weeks Unpresidented, 241 years after brilliance was put to parchment, idiocy is put to iPhone — 140 characters at a time. Americans demand steady leadership during this consequential time in our history, and anxiously await the day when that leadership is restored.

Meanwhile…

  • President Trump spent much of his 4th golfing

These continued golf trips put Trump in a perpetual state of hypocrisy.

  • Donald Trump Jr. decided to send out a tweet insulting liberals on this day where we are supposed to be collectively celebrating our nation

  • The Reddit user responsible for creating the video of Trump body slamming CNN apologized
  • Last week Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough dropped an op-ed in The Washington Post entitled “Donald Trump Is Not Well,” in which the couple broached their concerns over the President’s health. This echoes the concerns of many, as we’ve seen Trump appear to forget where he is on multiple occasions. On Tuesday, Trump appeared to wander away from his limo aimlessly…

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened.

Events like these, coupled with his erratic behavior, have led to heightened questions surrounding President Trump’s mental health, bolstering calls for the invocation of the 25th amendment.

As President Trump took off on Air Force to begin his days abroad at the G20 summit, there wasn’t great news for his fake “vote fraud” investigation. By Wednesday, 44 states and DC had rejected at least a portion of the Trump administration’s request for voter information. The Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, aka the commission created to investigate Trump’s wild and unsubstantiated conspiracy theory that millions voted illegally, requested names, addresses, birth dates and party affiliations of registered voters all 50 states. And as we can see, the states are not having it. President Trump expressed his displeasure earlier in the week.

Many saw right through this as the massive voter suppression effort it really is. Even the vice chair of the commission, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach (R) wouldn’t fully comply with his own request.

Meanwhile…

  • Trump continued his attempts at Twitter diplomacy

As Trump complained about the lack of diplomacy between the US and Asian nations over the past few days, some pointed out the many vacancies in the State Department that are contributing to this problem.

  • The Guardian reported that “Investigators are looking into whether Trump supporters and far-right websites coordinated with Moscow over the release of fake news, including stories implicating Clinton in murder or paedophilia, or paid to boost those stories on Facebook”
  • “President Trump’s voter fraud commission may have violated the law by ignoring federal requirements governing requests for information from states, several experts on the regulatory process told The Hill.”
  • The Trump administration is reportedly looking into new ways to abuse their power. According to The New York Times, White House advisers have discussed a potential point of leverage over their adversary, a senior administration official said: a pending merger between CNN’s parent company, Time Warner, and AT&T. Mr. Trump’s Justice Department will decide whether to approve the merger, and while analysts say there is little to stop the deal from moving forward, the president’s animus toward CNN remains a wild card”
  • According to Politico, the Trump organization renewed over 1,000 domain names, including TrumpRussia.com and TrumpTowerMoscow.com

In Defense Of Russia

President Trump tends to conduct himself as if Vladimir Putin is hovering over his shoulder. Given his lack of restraint with literally everyone else on the planet, the lengths Trump goes to avoid saying anything negative about Putin is both bizarre and troubling. After giving a speech in Poland where he appeared for a moment to take a strong stance against Russia, urging Russia to “cease its destabilizing activity in Ukraine and elsewhere,” President Trump held a joint press conference with Polish President Andrzej Duda. During this press conference, President Trump made a statement casting doubt on the US intelligence community’s conclusion that not only Russia was behind the hacks on the DNC, but Putin personally oversaw them. Trump said:

“I think it was Russia but I think it was probably other people and or countries. I see nothing wrong with that statement. Nobody really knows. Nobody really knows for sure.”

He went on to attack President Obama’s handling of the interference in our democracy. “Why did he do nothing about it? He was told it was Russia by the CIA … and he did nothing about it,” Trump asserted.

Russia immediately latched onto these comments, trying to siphon vindication from them

Instead of going into the upcoming Friday meeting with Putin standing firmly by the US intelligence community, Trump casted doubt on the US’ findings.

Oh, how could I forget. It wouldn’t be a Trump press conference without a little fake news talk. Except this time, it was on foreign soil, and with a Polish president who has been accused of curbing press freedoms in his own country.

Meanwhile…

  • As President Trump cast doubt on whether or not Russia was behind the hacks on the DNC, CNN reported that Russia is ramping up their intelligence-gathering initiatives in the US. Citing current and former intelligence officials, the report claims there are now nearly 150 suspected Russian operatives in the US. One of the most concerning parts of the report is that despite the warnings from intelligence officials, the State Department is still issuing temporary visas to the suspected Russian operatives…
  • The New York Times also reported that “hackers have been penetrating the computer networks of companies that operate nuclear power stations and other energy facilities, as well as manufacturing plants in the United States and other countries,” and that the techniques mimicked those of a Russian hacking group known as “Energetic Bear”
  • In a move that made President Trump’s isolationist approach to trade look idiotic, Japan and Europe agreed to a monumental trade deal that would “cover nearly 30 percent of the global economy, 10 percent of the world’s population and 40 percent of global trade.” If this deal is put into place, it would be the same size as NAFTA, The Washington Post reports
  • One of Bannon’s key allies is leaving the National Security Council as National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster’s gains power

Kiss The Ring

The day finally arrived. The first official meeting between President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin. Ahead of the meeting, while news circulated about Russia’s ramped up spy efforts in the US ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, Trump decided to wake up and tweet an attack on an American victim of Russia’s hacking efforts, John Podesta.

Podesta responded.

He then proceeded to skip the G20’s session on Sustainable Growth, Climate, and Energy for his meeting with Putin where it was all laughs.

Then in a sit-down photo op, before they convened their meeting, they exchanged pleasantries, and President Trump proceeded to proclaim that he was honored to be in the presence of a man who’s responsible for the interference into our democracy.

The only people allowed in the meeting with Putin and Trump were Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. The formerbeing Russia’s top diplomat and the latter being the recipient of Russia’s 2013 Order of Friendship award.

The meeting was scheduled to be thirty minutes. It ended up lasting for 2 hours and 16 minutes. The meeting yielded a ceasefire in southwest Syria, but what was on the minds of the American people was whether or not President Trump addressed Russia’s attack on our democracy. Leaving the meeting there were, of course, conflicting accounts of the events that transpired.

Tillerson claimed that Trump pressed Putin on more than one occasion about Russia’s interference and after Putin denied it, they moved on to other discussions.

Lavrov and Putin went as far as to say President Trump accepted Putin’s denial:

“The U.S. president said that he heard clear statements from President Putin about this being untrue and that he accepted these statements,” Lavrov said.

Who were we supposed to believe? The pathological lying President who’s credibility is nonexistent? Rex Tillerson? The Russian President and his officials who’s Soviet-style disinformation got us here in the first place?

Well, President Trump cleared that up for us on Sunday, by going on a tweet storm.

Ok, so a few things. Trump appears to validate Lavrov’s account of events because we know Trump’s opinion is one of doubting the intelligence community’s conclusion that Russia was behind the hacks. Chances are, Trump accepted Putin’s denial and moved on. Also, it is pure insanity to even contemplate creating a “cyber security unit” with the Russians. They literally just hacked our institutions and are currently implementing intelligence operations to gather even more intelligence. Some Republican Senators concur with my sentiment…

It wasn’t enough to try and soften sanctions against Russia upon taking office and most recently trying to water down the Senate’s bipartisan Russian sanctions bill. No, Trump had to go face to face with our foreign adversary and kiss his ring.

I mean, just look at the confidence Putin left the meeting with.

Meanwhile…

President Trump’s move to allow Ivanka to sit in for him angered many.

The G20 overall seemed more like a G19 with the other nations moving forward on trade and their climate declarations without the US.

President Trump returned from the G20 summit to damaging reports regarding his son. After the New York Times reported on Saturday that Donald Trump Jr., Paul Manafort, and Jared Kushner met with a Russian lawyer days after Trump clinched the Republican nomination, on Sunday they added to their reporting…and the details are damning:

President Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., was promised damaging information about Hillary Clinton before agreeing to meet with a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer during the 2016 campaign, according to three advisers to the White House briefed on the meeting and two others with knowledge of it.

The meeting was also attended by his campaign chairman at the time, Paul J. Manafort, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Mr. Manafort and Mr. Kushner only recently disclosed the meeting, though not its content, in confidential government documents described to The New York Times.

Typically here I’d say something along the lines of “if true, this would be the most concrete evidence of attempted collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia thus far.” But, no need for the “if true” part. Trump Jr. has admitted it.

If this is what Donald Trump Jr. is willing to admit publicly, imagine what Special Counsel Robert Mueller has found…This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Trump’s eerie efforts to reset relations with Russia puzzles the masses while his campaign’s ties to Russia continue to grow. Whether or not Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia, what we are now witnessing seems to be exactly what Russia would want out of their end of the bargain if there was collusion. A seat at the table and a weakened US that is growing increasingly isolated, while Russia repositions itself in a position of leverage to reduce sanctions and boost their global influence.

Meanwhile, headlines around the world praise the leader of the free world: Angela Merkel.
